It’s been more than a year since Thailand legalized the consumption and cultivation of cannabis, leading to a rise in cannabis cups and related competitions all around the country.
One cup worth mentioning is Prempavee’s 1st Ganja Cup, an outdoor-organic cannabis competition, promoting regenerative farming and reintroducing Thai landrace cultivars back into the cannabis scene.
The 1st Ganja Cup aims to redefine the standard and quality of outdoor grown cannabis, and create new demand for South East Asian cultivars versus the Western indoor grown market prevalent with high THC% and dense buds, common in North America and Europe.
The organization behind this tournament, Prempavee Farm, based in Nakhon Phanom, northeastern Thailand (also called Isaan), growing the likes of sativa landraces like Mekhong Classic along with modern hybrids like AK-47 and Northern Lights, genetics suitable to the warm Thai climate.
While international investors are plowing millions into high-tech indoor grow operations across the country, Prempavee Farm is determined to promote a sustainable growing platform where farmers can take full advantage of the immense solar energy of the tropics.

Prempavee’s 1st ganja cup will be the first competition, not ruled by competition; it looks to expand further to support the community by creating a network for growers and sellers in Thailand.
The cup is a yearlong tournament, starting from May 2023 until April 2024. Each month participants will send their samples harvested in the past season for anonymous scoring. Winners will then move into the semi-finals to determine the winner.
The organization of the Ganja Cup 100% non-profit with all the funding will support Thai farmers in financial hardships and support prisoners for cannabis-related crime in neighboring countries in SE Asia.
In addition, all participants of the Ganja Cup will receive the POONF certification (Place of Origin and Organic Natural Farm) securing a market for their product.
